How to use the age calculator

1. Enter your date of birth in the first field.
2. Leave age at the date on today for your current age, or set it to any past or future date.
3. Press Calculate Age; after the first result, the breakdown updates as you edit either date.

Both fields are read as plain calendar dates, so the time of day and your timezone never shift the result. The date of birth has to fall on or before the "age at" date — the tool always measures forward and never silently swaps a reversed pair.

What each result means

• Years, months and days — your exact age, the headline figure.
• Total months, weeks and days — the same span expressed in one unit at a time.
• Days until your next birthday — counted from the "age at" date.

The totals all describe one identical span at different scales, so they are not meant to be added together — the person below is 31 years old and 376 months old and 11,466 days old, three views of the same life so far.

How the calculation works

Age is not plain subtraction, because calendar months are different lengths. The calculator first counts the whole months between the two dates, advances your birth date by that many months, and then measures the leftover days from that anchor. Working month-first keeps years, months and days all positive and guarantees they reassemble back to the exact end date.

The total-days figure is counted separately, straight across the calendar, so it always includes the extra day in every leap year. That is why the breakdown and the single-unit totals never contradict each other, whichever dates you choose.

A worked example

Take a birth date of 20 March 1995 measured as of 10 August 2026. There are 376 whole months between them; advancing the birth date by those 376 months lands on 20 July 2026, and 10 August is 21 days further on. So the exact age is 31 years, 4 months and 21 days.

Expressed as single units, that same span is 376 months, 1,638 weeks or 11,466 days — with every leap day from 1996 through 2024 folded into that day count.

Why month and day counting is tricky

When a birth day lands on a date the destination month does not have, the calculator uses that month's last day instead. Count from 31 January 2024 to 1 March 2024 and the answer is 0 years, 1 month, 1 day: one whole month reaches 29 February — February's last day in a leap year — and 1 March is a single day beyond it. Naive subtraction tends to produce an impossible "negative day" in cases like this; the month-first method never does.

Tips and common questions

• To find someone's age at a future event, set the "age at" date to the event's date.
• For a birthday countdown, read the days-until-next-birthday figure — it recalculates from whatever "age at" date you set.
• Two age tools can disagree by a day when they treat month-ends or leap days differently; this one counts every actual calendar day, so its breakdown and totals stay consistent.
